We signed the transfer of ownership papers and can finally let the cat out of the bag (cause it was seriously clawing and quite a few people had already had a peek at what was in the bag) and announce that we will be taking possession of this beauty on June 10th. Her new name (which i decided on about 30 years ago) will be Refiner’s Fire (unless TC comes up with a stupid reason why it can’t be, in which case, we may have to rename our website/blog). She is a 1988 Bayfield 36 (yay Ontario built!), full-keel, very heavy cutter.

For the curious, the name “Refiner’s Fire” comes from a quote from the Biblical book of Malachi:
“I will send my messenger…” says the Lord Almighty, “But who can endure the day of his coming? Who can stand when he appears? For he will be like a refiner’s fire”
And for me, it means that the sea burns away all that clutters up our lives and leaves us with what is necessary. For me, going to sea showed me the path my life was going to take, showed me indeed what I was good at and made everything that has happened since.
